Scarborough Turntable

One of the only turn tables in Eastern Britian in located in Scarborough. Since the introduction of both diesel and electric traction, there has not been much need for turn tables. However, Scarborough turn table is used at least once a year when steam locomotives are used for special events.

The turntable is part owned by Network Rail and part owned by Scarborough council.

Part of the maintenance is to ensure that the turntable remains operational. Stasrting the engine is a very tiring job; it can be hand cranked or started with a battery. Once started the turntable can be turned.

This picture shows that people have been on or about the line in order to graffiti the turntable. This highlights a major problem that the railways have always experienced; trespass and vandalism (T&V).
